Enhanced heterologous production of eicosapentaenoic acid in Escherichia coli cells that coexpress eicosapentaenoic acid biosy

Cellular eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) makes up approximately 3% of total fatty acids in Escherichia coli DH5α, a strain that carries EPA biosynthesis genes (pEPAΔ1). EPA was increased to 12% of total fatty acids when the host cell coexpressed the vector pGBM3::sa1(vktA), which carried the high-performance catalase gene, vktA. Where this vector was coexpressed, the transformant accumulated a larg...

Evaluating the effect of arachidonic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid on induction of adipogenesis in human adipose-derived stem cells

Objective(s): Adipose tissue is one of the most important endocrine organs that liberates many metabolic mediators such as hormones, cytokines, and chemokines. Different types of fatty acids have key roles in adipogenesis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of two essential fatty acids, including Arachidonic acid (AA) and Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), on ...

Eicosapentaenoic acid inhibits cell growth and triacylglycerol secretion in McA-RH7777 rat hepatoma cultures.

The plasma triacylglycerol-decreasing effect of fish-oil fatty acids was studied in vitro by using the rapidly growing cultured rat hepatoma cell line McA-RH7777. Cells were exposed to albumin-complexed eicosapentaenoic acid (C20:5n-3; EPA), to oleic acid (C18:1n-9; OA), or to albumin alone. Cell growth was similar in albumin- and OA-supplemented cultures, but EPA treatment inhibited growth. As...
